Former Zamfara State governor Abdulaziz Yari has said Nigeria's northern region will produce a larger vote tally for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election than the whole of the south-west, according to TheCable. He made the claim while projecting support for the president's re-election bid.

The same report indicates Yari is targeting 800,000 votes for Tinubu in Ekiti State, a south-west state, Punch Newspapers reported separately.

Other figures have also been mobilising for the president in Ekiti. TheCable reported that Yilwatda sought backing from Ekiti voters for Tinubu and other All Progressives Congress candidates in 2027. THISDAYLIVE reported that Oluyede led OPARHA supporters in a re-election mobilisation drive in the state.

In a related development, former Edo governor Adams Oshiomhole described Vice-President Kashim Shettima as the most rugged, dogged and intelligent person to hold that office in Nigeria's history, Daily Post Nigeria reported.

The statements point to early campaigning by APC-aligned figures ahead of the 2027 general election, with attention on how vote blocs in the north and south-west are being counted.

What to watch next: whether other party figures publicly commit to vote targets in specific states, and how the APC structures its re-election campaign across the two regions.
